South of Lima you can experience the extremely dry coast of Peru and be surprised about the weather conditions in this region. In the following two days we will take you to the desert which reaches far inland to the beginning of the mountain ranges, as well as to the rocky islands off shore which are home to thousands of sea lions, pelicans and penguins.
Day 1: Visit the Paracas National Park
Day 2: Boat ride to the Islas Ballestas in order to see plenty of animals
In the afternoon you will visit the Paracas National Park which is part of one of the driest deserts of the world with hardly any measurable rainfall. Surprisingly the temperature of this desert is rather cool. All these climate and weather phenomena will be explained hands on. You will also be surprised by the fossil remains in the middle of this desert, which indicate that the coast line of Peru actually used to be seabed of the Pacific. You will be enchanted by the scant beauty of this landscape. (Hotel in Paracas)
Early in the morning you will take a boat ride to the Islas Ballestas. These islands are populated by thousands of aquatic birds and are used to harvest guano. Apart from the many birds, you can see a vast number of sea lions and penguins sun bathing. This spectacle of nature can be observed perfectly from the boat.
