Day 1: Daytrip to Chavín de Huántar, one of the most important archeological sites in Peru

Day 5: Ascent to the highest point of the hike, the pass Punta Unión

In the morning you will head towards the archeological site of Chavín de Huántar with your private guide and vehicle. The complex of Chavín de Huántar is one of the oldest stone constructions in Peru and has the byname “Rome of the Andes”. During its heydays between 400 and 200 BC Chavin was a religious center for many tribes and cultures in South America and influenced most parts of Peru as we know it today. (Hotel in Huaraz)
Today you will head on a day trip to the lake of Rajucolta which is not yet populated by tourists. With a view of the peak of Huantsan you can start your first hike today. (Hotel in Huaraz)
The famous Santa Cruz Trek begins with your private guide and top quality hiking equipment. You will be picked up early at the hotel and will head north. In the small town of Cashapampa you will meet your horse drivers (arrieros) and their horses. Today’s hike will take you to Llamacorral. (accommodation: tent)
After an early breakfast the hike takes you past the lakes of Ichic Cocha and Hatun Cocha. Enjoy the view of the surrounding mountain peaks of the Alpamayo, Aguja and Artesonraju which is said to have inspired the Pramount Logo. The day ends at Taullipampa (accommodation: tent)
The ascent to the pass Punta Unión (15,580 ft) is the hardest part of the hike. From here you can enjoy the view of the peaks Taulliraju, Pirámide de Garcilazo and Paria. The deep blue color of the glacier lakes in this amazing landscape will leave you stunned. From now it´s only downhill the last camp site Cachinapampa. (accommodation: tent)
